We have a new Android App!

We have some very exciting news - JDMLegion.com has launched its first Android App. It's a gear speed calculator and is a development of the original tool I wrote for JustSkylines.com. The JustSkylines.com version has been moved to JDMLegion.com, click here to take a look.

The gear speed calculator allows you to enter your gear ratios, final drive ratio and driven tyre size and from this will calculate your estimated in-gear speeds at various RPM intervals. Especially useful is the compare feature, so you can easily see what difference changing wheels, gearbox or final drive will have on your car.

JustSkylines.com

As promised in the last update, a great deal of the content from JustSkylines.com has been moved over to JDMLegion.com. We have a new knowledge base section and a new projects section both of which add great value to the site and will be expanded over the coming months.

Now we have a dedicated knowledge base section it would be great to recieve any guides or info from you guys. Let us know what you can come up with!

The JDMLegion.com R32 Skyline

Unfortunately the JDMLegion.com R32 Skyline is no longer with us. Due to making the first step into the property market, the car had to be sold to release some funds. However, we have an S13 in the JDMLegion.com group which is currently undergoing some engine work and having a shiny new turbo fitted so stay tuned to the projects section for updates.

Hopefully there'll be another JDM car coming along soon, all depending on the funds left after the impending house move!

6 months

Wow. Has it really been that long since the last update? Sorry, we've been a bit busy!

JustSkylines.com

JDMLegion.com will very soon be incorporating JustSkylines.com. JustSkylines.com was first set up by me (Rob) when I bought my R32 for two reasons. First, I wanted to provide a detailed build thread of the car. Secondly I wanted to have an online repository of all the information I had seen on the web that I could access easily from my workshop.

It is these 2 things that will be brought over from JustSkylines.com. The rest of JustSkylines.com will be put in to retirement, although it will be up for a while yet while the transition takes place.

Now we have a dedicated knowledge base section it would be great to recieve any guides or info from you guys. Let us know what you can come up with!

Fresh Design

Look how minty fresh our new design is! We're really happy with the way the site now looks and hope you guys like it too!

Friends

Want to put your link on our site? Or have a link to your shop from our shop? Get in touch and we'll try to work out a swap of banner space.

Event Maps

The static event maps now remember your zoom level and the map type - so if you want to zoom in on a circuit and show it as a satellite picture, no problem!

Remember me

When you log in to the site now you will see a small 'remember me' checkbox underneath the email and password textboxes. Ticking this box will add an encrypted cookie to your computer that enables us to log you in to the site automatically when you return. If you manually logout of the site, this cookie will no longer be effective until your next login.

We recommend not selecting the remember me option and explicitly logging out of the site when using a public computer to ensure your account remains secure.

Search result pagination

The search results had no pagination functionality which meant the results page could get quite long! Pagination has now been added which will hopefully make finding what you want quicker and easier.

Forum, events maps and articles

It's been a long time since the last release. We've been caught up with developing more and more things and not getting to a nice break point to put a new version of the site up! Finally we're ready - here's a few of the things we've been up to:

Forum

We have a forum! This will replace the global discussion board. There are links to get to the forum on the left and top menus. The forum has been built from scratch so it may seem a bit basic in comparison to some of the other pre-packaged forums out there. We decided to build our own as it was the best way to completely integrate it with our site, and we now have total control over how it works. Try it out and let us know if you have any problems or ideas.

Event maps

We've added a new feature to our events in the form of event mapping. You can now add one of two types of maps to an event. If your event is at one location (e.g. a car show, track day, etc) then you can add it as a static map to your event so other users can see where the event takes place. If on the other hand your event is across several locations (e.g. a car cruise, cross-European rally, etc) add it to your event as a route map. The event mapping service relies on the Google Maps API, so if you have used this API before and have any suggestions how it could be improved please let us know!

Articles

We've built a basic admin back-end for the articles section, which means we don't now have to do a release of the site every time we want to add a new article. We have various news items beginning to come through now, so why not subscribe to the articles RSS feed and keep up to date with all the latest news.

Profile page

Lastly we have redesigned the profile page to try to improve the layout. Hope you guys approve :o)

Events calendar

We have implemented a couple of changes to the events calendar:

  • You can now double-click any day on the calendar and you will be prompted to add an event for that day.
  • When you hover over an event on any day, there is a new style tip displayed that gives a preview of the event description and the event's profile image.

RSS feeds

Any pages that have associated RSS feeds - for the moment this is the what's new page (this one!) and all the articles pages - now have a link in the top right hand corner of the page to easily navigate to the feed. Just click on the RSS icon and add the feed to your favourite reader to keep up to date with what's going on with the site.

Navigation

We have just built a new menu for the site (the one at the top of the page). There are now sub-menus which we hope will help you guys navigate the site easier.

Notifications

You will now receive a notification email when anyone posts a comment on an image or video in any of your galleries, or when any user posts on a discussion board of yours (this could be a discussion board on your profile page, or on an event or team profile page that you are the owner of).

If you don't like these notifications, you can easily opt out of them. To do this you will need to:

  • Go to your Account Settings page (hover over the profile tab on the top menu and select Account Settings from the sub-menu).
  • In the first section (Change your account settings) there are 3 new checkboxes. Deselect whichever notifications you want to stop receiving and click the 'Change account settings' button. Easy!

Gallery search

A new tab has been added to the search page so that you can now search for other users galleries and have a look through their pictures. Click the search tab on the top menu to check it out.
