Replacing A Broken Clutch Bracket
It never occurred to me that the clutch pedal mounting bracket could break. Maybe the brake pedal bracket would get worn after too many emergency stops, but who stamps on the clutch? I guess there's drifters out there abusing their clutch pedal, but (unfortunately) I have nowhere near the skill to drift.
Anyway. My clutch pedal had begun to feel a little spongy - almost like the clutch was going as the travel to the biting point seemed to have changed a fair bit. Then I went to change gear and heard a snapping of metal, and the pedal disappeared into the carpet of the footwell.
This is what had happened...

The mounting bracket for the clutch had snapped and broken a weld. This is an easy one to fix - remove the bracket by unbolting the master cylinder from inside the engine bay and undoing the mounting bolts in the footwell. This job is made so much easier by removing the driver's seat, and if you're worried about getting footmarks on your rear seats I'd whip those out quickly too. Once out, get the bracket welded up and reinforced and then put it back in.
Like I said not a difficult job, but thought it was worth adding here as next time your clutch pedal feels a little off it might be worth a check before you put that order in for a shiny new clutch!
