RB25 conversion Stage 6 - More painting, cylinder head and cam covers JDMLegion.com projects RSS feed

My plan for this weekend was to rebuild the head, but having painted the block I got a bit carried away this weekend and decided to do a load more painting to carry on the bright red theme. Here's the cylinder head painted...

The rocker covers were in horrible condition when I took them off the engine, here's one as it was when it was removed...

First job was to give them a good scrub in the degreaser, not only to remove some dirt from the exterior but also to have a clean around all the baffles. Here's one after coming out of the degreaser...

I then used an electric drill with a wire brush attachment to take the covers back to bare metal, with the bonus of this keying the surface up for the paint to come. Here's some pics of the covers cleaned up with the wire brush...

I also took the front cam belt and cam gear cover plates back to bare metal for painting...

With all the bits prepped I started spraying them with an aerosol enamel paint. I gave all the parts 4 coats and they've come up with a nice finish...

I couldn't think of anything to do whilst waiting for the paint to dry between coats, and ended up polishing the heads of the cam cover bolts. It's a bit sad but it was that or watch paint dry! They came up quite nice...

That's going to be about it for the painting side of things. I'm going to polish my plenum and throttle body, and have a polished coil pack cover and inlet cam wheel cover. I think the mix of polished and red painted parts should be really striking.

I've ordered big end and main bearings and a metal head gasket, so now have all the parts to put the engine back together. I'll be doing this over Christmas as I have some time off - check back in a few days :o)
