RB25 conversion Stage 18 - ISIS plenum, FPR, catch tank, breather system, radiator fan...
lot of updates in this installment. I've been busy trying to get the car finished so don't have many pictures to show installation steps - Modball in 5 weeks so the pressure is on!!
I ordered a Greddy style intake manifold made by ISIS from a company in the States called Raw Brokerage. The plenum is much cheaper than the Greddy manifold but this does come at a price as it did require some work to make good. The water pipe bolt holes didn't all line up correctly, and neither did one of the bolt holes for the aac valve. Also the water pipe that joins the rad was poorly cast. However, with a bit of time with a dremel and a drill it all got sorted easily enough. I needed to turn all the injectors through 180 degrees to point the plugs the opposite way from standard so the plugs would fit easily.
The downside of this design of plenum is that the pipework will need to go through the battery tray, so I am relocating the battery to the boot. I've bought a circuit breaker and all the cable and am going to get my mate to make me up a battry box - more on this in a future update.
I have blanked off a lot of the breather system and installed a catch tank. I got rid of the exhaust side breather pipe from the cam cover and got hold of an intake cam cover pipe to go in it's place - much neater than blanking off the standard tee-piece pipe. These breather pipes are then vented to a catch tank which I tapped a hose attachement to and installed a breather filter so it will vent to atmosphere. This looks so much cleaner than the stock set up. I just used an alloy bung to bung the hole on the intake cam cover that usually goes to the pcv valve.
I bought an externally mounted fuel pressure regulator and mounted it on the drivers side suspension turret. I also got rid of the crappy fan that I had had installed previously, and bought a new 16" slimline fan to mount between the engine and rad. Hopefully this will give much better cooling.
All the water lines are now connected up, the standard oil pressure sender is installed into the oil sandwich plate, the AFM and air filter are all installed and the fuel lines are connected up.
I'm waiting on a throttle adaptor so I can mount the standard throttle body on the new plenum - when this is done I can get my mate to make me a pipe up to join the intercooler to the throttle body with a flange to attach a dump valve and a pipe to route to the AAC valve. Not much left to do now before it can be started!
Here's a load of pics of my progress...
